A few pictures of an Osprey (Pandion haliaetus) – Vulturul pescar, eating a fish on a tree near Bogdaproste lake in the Danube Delta. It was very cloudy so the results are not the best but acceptable. The Osprey is not a commune bird around the Delta and it is not breeding here. It seems odd to have such a huge wetland and not one single Osprey breeding. The one explanation I found is the water “quality” and by that I mean the clarity of the water is not all the time ideal for them as in mid summer the water temperatures are rising up to 28 C and all becomes murky. This is my supposition and nothing scientific, all based on my observation . During migration few exemplars are spotted mostly in the fluvio-maritime delta where water levels and water flow are more constant so visibility is better.
